ArticleReach Direct

What is ArticleReach Direct?

ArticleReach Direct is a consortium of academic libraries. At present there are 7 academic libraries and 1 research consortium. Members have created a combined catalog of their journal collections. Authorized users from each library may request articles from other member libraries' journals by requesting them online in the ArticleReach Direct Catalog or through their home libraries' electronic indexes. What material is available in ArticleReach Direct?

ArticleReach Direct gives you access to the combined journal titles of member libraries. ArticleReach Direct is continuously updated with the local holdings of member libraries. Since MSU is a member library you now have faster access to requesting articles MSU Libraries doesn't own.

Who can use ArticleReach Direct?

Faculty, staff, and students at Michigan State can use ArticleReach Direct. Check with the library if you are unsure of your requesting status.

How do I get started?

You can connect directly at http://arlir.iii.com or through Find Text @ MSU in the MSU Libraries' Indexes. To get more information about access, check with a librarian or watch our tutorial.

How do I find ArticleReach Direct articles?

  1. Go to ArticleReach Direct web page.
  2. Search for the title of the journal (not the title of the article) by keyword, title, author, subject, call # or issn.


  3. When you find what your want, select the button, "Request this article. "




  4. You will be asked to enter your location for authorization. Complete the authorization information using the appropriate boxes and submit.



  5. Once you are authorized, complete the form and submit (be sure to include as much information as possible, requests with minimal information may not be filled).


  6. Your request is forwarded immediately to the owning library.
  7. You can monitor the status of ArticleReach Direct request in the "View your Library Account" option available through the MSU Libraries website. You may be able to access the article from this same location.
  8. You will be notified when the article has arrived.
  9. You will be notified if the article is cancelled and a reason will be included in the message.

OR

You may use MSU libraries' article indexes and click on links that will send the information to ArticleReach Direct once you have submitted the request for authorization.



How do I check on my ArticleReach Direct request?

You may monitor the status of ArticleReach Direct requests in the "View your Library Account" option available on the MSU Libraries' website. Items that have been received will be viewable by clicking on the link. Items that have been cancelled will be in that status in your record. Items that cannot be supplied by ArticleReach Direct member libraries will show a status indicating that the item has been sent to the Interlibrary Office of your library. You will need to check the ill system available to you (i.e. ILLiad, etc.).

1. Login to your library account and click on "Article Requests." See below.



2. These are examples of article requests. The status may say filled, cancelled (if we own it), or show a status indicating that the item has been sent to the Interlibrary Loan office. If that is the case you'll be notified through that system when the article is available and how to access it.



How can I cancel an ArticleReach Direct request?

You cancel an ArticleReach Direct request in the "View your Library Account" option available on the MSU Libraries' website. See example of record above. If an item has a "REQUESTED" status, there is still time to cancel this request.
